Making Access to Information Easy: The Work You Don’t See

Many library users may have noticed some exciting new changes when accessing resources from Recorded Education to our subscribed resources like TripPro. Julia Gollan, the eResource Librarian for HNE Health Libraries, has been collaborating with a team from the University of Newcastle, eHealth, and library vendors to implement single sign-on (SSO) for all HNELHD staff.

What is SSO?

Single Sign-On (SSO) simplifies the login process for users accessing various applications and services within a library. Instead of logging in to each resource individually, users log in once through a central system, and their credentials are used to access all participating library resources, including CIAP and HNE Health Libraries subscriptions.

How it works our library context:

In our library context, single sign-on allows users to access multiple library resources and services such as databases, online journals, and library management software—using just one set of credentials, your Stafflink ID and password, instead of using your library membership.

Behind the Scenes:

While SSO makes accessing library resources easier than ever, providing high-quality, evidence-based resources requires ongoing work from the library team. They negotiate licenses, ensure seamless access, troubleshoot technical issues, and continuously assess the relevance of the collections to meet the District’s evolving information needs.

The next time you effortlessly access a full-text article, remember that it is the result of expert management, advocacy, and problem-solving by the library team. If you encounter any access issues, the library team is ready to assist you, ensuring you have the right information at the right time.
