Data storage and archiving

Research data needs to be stored securely for the life of the project and for any required retention period. Funding bodies may mandate where research data needs to be stored.

The sensitivity of the data must be taken into consideration when deciding on appropriate storage and access of data. This is especially applicable when storing confidential data that relates to research with human subjects.

Store your data in more than one place and in more than one format. This ensures that your files can be restored if they are corrupted or go missing.

If data can be shared, consider storing it in a data repository or archive.
